EPDM Single-Ply EPDM
The EPDM (ethylene propylene diene terpolymer) — or rubber roofing — has been a top choice for contractors, architects, and building managers for nearly a half a century. A single-ply roofing material, it’s known for its durablity, resistance to elements, and suitability for a wide range of temperatures. This lightweight material can be applied to virtually any roof surface — whether is be flat, spherical, curved or slanted. Varied application techniques such as ballasted, fully adhered and mechanically fastened give EPDM single-ply roofs adaptability.
Roof Maintenance and Systems installs built up roofing from felt, bitumen and surfacing. Felts act as tensile reinforcement to resist the extreme forces imposed on roofing material by the elements. Manufacturers make roof felt from glass, organic or polyester fibers. Built-up roof systems get their name from the process by which they are built. We apply alternating layers of felt and bitumen to create a water tight membrane to protext the structural building materials from the elements. The final layer is called the cap sheet, which is made of smooth, gravel, slag or a mineral-coated felt.
Modified bitumen roofing puts a slightly different spin on the traditional built-up roofing system by adding plastic or rubber-based polymeric binders to the asphalt to i mprove roof performance. Like built up roofing, we apply modified bitumen in layers and use woven glass or polyester fabric reinforcing to increase the membranes’ resistance to heavy traffic, punctures and tears.
Thermoplastics PVC/TPO Single Ply
The fastest growing segment of the U.S. roofing market over the past five years is Thermoplastic single ply membranes and they are revolutionizing the industrial and commercial roofing industry. The PVC (polyvinyl chloride) is a reinforced membrane with tough solvent-or hot-air welded seams giving it excellent durability and dimensional stability. The TPO (thermoplastic polyolefin) combines the hot-air welding benefit of the PVC and the greater flexibility and weather protection benefits of EPDM. Both are aesthetically pleasing, lightweight, highly reflective and tear resistant, and offer great fire resistance.
